2018 Clergy Retreat

25 May

Under the auspices of His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak, the Patriarchal Vicar of the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States, the Clergy of the archdiocese had their annual clergy retreat in a brotherly atmosphere at the Mor Aphrem Center in Paramus, New Jersey. The retreat took place from Monday, May 21st until Friday, May 25th, 2018.

On Tuesday, May 22nd, the Christophers group gave interesting and informative workshops on communication, relationships, social networking, and active listening. These factors are becoming increasingly popular in the world that we live in. Social networking is being helped along by the power of social media, and it even allows you to grow with a dedicated Instagram manager if you see fit. And with less-discussed scenarios that are being spoken about here in these workshops, social networking, and active listening could go a long way. On Wednesday, May 23rd, there was a workshop held on the topic of the covenant of marriage.  Then on Thursday, May 24th, sessions were held regarding funerals and Holy Week, along with a very informative database workshop.

The workshops included themes that benefit both the Clergy and Parishioners of our Church.  After the workshops, the Clergy gathered to discuss the spiritual growth of their respective parishes and about previous programs they have held in the past.

On the last day of the retreat, His Eminence celebrated the Holy Liturgy, where he spoke about the priesthood, the duty of the priests and the relationship with the Parish.  Afterwards, everyone was invited for a fellowship brunch at the Mor Aphrem Center.

Special thanks to the Mor Aphrem Center Ladies Auxiliary for donating and contributing in the preparation of meals during the Clergy Retreat week.
