His Holiness Visits St. Aphraim Church in Washington DC

On Thursday September 11, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited St. Aphraim Church in Washington DC. His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Clemis Eugene Kaplan, Patriarchal Vicar in Western USA.

His Holiness was received at the entrance of the church by the parish priest Rev. Raban Fady Abdulahad and priests, monks and deacons as well as the choir and scouts.

His Holiness presided over the evening prayers (Ramsho) and spoke about the situation of Christians in the Middle East. He told the parishioners that it was time to show solidarity and love to the suffering Christians...

On Thursday September 11, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II and the delegation of the patriarchs of the East met with US President Barak Obama in the White House. The Patriarchs who were present are: Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Armenian Catholicose Aram I, Greek Catholic Patriarch Gregorius III Lahham, representative of the Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II Anba Angelos, representative of Greek Orthodox patriarch John X Joseph Zahlawi and Chaldean bishop Ibrahim Ibrahim. On Monday September 8, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II participated in a panel on “Christian Unity and Peace” in the “Peace is the Future Conference” and delivered a lecture entitled: “Christian Unity and Peace: St. Paul’s Call Since the Early Church”.

Following the invitation of the Community of Sant’Egidio, His Eminence Archbishop Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director, participated in the “Peace is the Future” Conference held in Antwerp – Belgium from 7 to 9 September 2014.

On Monday September 8, he participated in a panel on “Martyrs in Our Times” and gave a lecture entitled “The Meaning of Christian Martyrdom”.

Following the invitation of the Community of Sant’Egidio, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II participated in the opening of the “Peace is the Future: Religions and Cultures in Dialogue, 100 Years After World War I” in Antwerp – Belgium on Sunday September 7, 2014.
