His Eminence meets Senator Frank Lautenberg
On the evening of Thursday 13 August 2009, His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim met the Honorable Frank Lautenberg, the Senator of the State of New Jersey. His Eminence was accompanied by several parishioners from New Jersey. He was also joined by several Arab and Middle Eastern community leaders from the State. Mr. Samer Khalaf who organized the event, introduced His Eminence who offered an opening prayer in which he asked the Lord to bless all the elected leaders of the USA and to grant them wisdom and courage to serve the people who elected them. Mr. Khalaf, then, introduced Senator Lautenberg as a man of integrity and a good politician who represents New Jersey and its interests very capably and faithfully. In his speech, the Senator expressed his thanks for the warm reception which he received. He shared with his audience his humble background, growing in a poor family in Paterson, NJ. He then, offered his thoughts concerning several current political and social issues. He, particularly, talked about his several visits to the Middle-East and his efforts to bring about peace between Israel and its Arab Neighbors. Following dinner extensive conversation took place between the Senator and several participants.
