His Eminence’s visit to St. Nersess Seminary
At the invitation of the Very Rev. Fr. M. Daniel Findikyan, Dean and Professor of Liturgical Studies at St. Nersess Armenian Seminary, His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim spent the afternoon of Monday February 22nd, with the staff and seminarians of St. Nersess Seminary in New Rochelle, NY.
The program of the visit started with the celebration of the Vesper service, according to the Armenian Tradition, in the Seminary Chapel; presided by His Eminence Archbishop Yeghishe Gizirian, the former Archbishop of the United Kingdom. The prayer service was followed by a Lenten dinner with the residents of the seminary, as well as some local clergy and friends.
After dinner His Eminence spent some time with the seminarians in an informal discussion about the two venerable ancient traditions of Orthodoxy.
At 7:30 pm Professor Edward Matthews, a Syriac Scholar and a staff member of the seminary, introduced His Eminence to give a speech concerning the close relationship between the two sister churches and their role within the family of the Oriental Orthodox Churches; both on the level of the United States of America and on the international level. In the speech, His Eminence especially emphasized on the need to establish joint programs and institutions, to present a more powerful witness to the Oriental Orthodox faith, and to open the door for those interested in learning about our Christian traditions and heritages.
After answering questions raised by the audience, His Eminence concluded by a prayer, and he expressed his gratitude to St. Neresess for the invitation, and for the generous hospitality shown to him.
