His Eminence Visits St. Philoxenus Parish in Roanoke, Virginia

Friday, March the 18th , His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim arrived in Roanoke, Virginia on a pastoral visit to the parish of St. Philoxenus of Mabug. At the airport, he was greeted by the priest of the parish, Very Rev. Fr. Fadi Abdul Ahad, the president and members of the Board of the Church.

In the Church, His Eminence met with the Board over Lenten dinner. In the meeting, he reviewed with them the plans for the new headquarters of the church, which include a Sanctuary, a social hall, an apartment for the priest and few classrooms. He then took a…

Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese Passed Away

KANNUR, KERALA, INDIA: Senior Metropolitan of Evangelistic Association of the East (EAE) and St. Antony’s Mission (Honnavar Mission) Of Syriac Orthodox Church in India, Mor Polycarpus Geevarghese (78) passed away at Amala Hospital, Iritty, Kannur on March 06, Sunday at 9.00 PM IST. His Grace was in an Ayurvedic Treatment at Ulikkal, Kannur and was admitted to Amala Hospital, Iritty, due to Cardiac Arrest. The funeral will be at St. Antony’s Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Cathedral, Jeppu, Mangalaore (KARNATAKA) later. His Eminence Celebrates St. Aphrem’s Day in Rhode Island

Saturday and Sunday March 12 and 13, His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim paid a visit to the parish of St. Ephraim in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to celebrate the feast of the Patron Saint of the Church with the parishioners.

His Eminence attended a special spiritual evening on Saturday, which included a presentation on the life of St. Aphrem, performed by the deacons and choir of the church. The program included singing hymns by St. Aphrem and narrating his life.

His Eminence Ordains New Deacons In Rhode Island

On Sunday March the 12th, at three o’clock in the afternoon, His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) at St. Ephraim’s Church in Central Falls, Rhode Island. During the celebration, he ordained the following six altar servants to the rank of Qoruyo (Reader): Peter Askar, Alexander Khabbaz, Jordan Khabbaz, Barsom Nuay, Cyros Nuay and Hanna Touma.

His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim Meets with the Speaker of the Parliament of Turkey Mr. Mehmet Ali Şahin

The Turkish Council General Mehmet Samsar of New York invited His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim to meet with the Speaker of the parliament of Turkey Mr. Mehmet Ali Şahin on Wednesday, March 23rd. His Eminence was accompanied by Fr. Aziz H. Hadodo, Sait Samuel, Gabriel Akyon, Aziz Akyon, Lahdo Yildiz and Sami Gelin. Speaker Şahin was accompanied by delegates from Turkey, including Congressman Suat Kınıklıoğlu, Ambassador Namık Tan of Washıngton D.C., Councıl General Mehmet Samsar, and Assistant Councıl General Ayşe Üzer. Clergy Retreat 2011

The Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Eastern United States, held its Annual Clergy Retreat on March 21-24 2011, in St. Mary’s Villa Convent, Sloatsburg, New York. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim presided over the Retreat, which was attended by the clergy from all the parishes of the Archdiocese.

According to the retreat schedule, prepared beforehand by the Archdiocese, the clergy met with His Eminence at the New Archdiocesan Center on Midland Avenue in Paramus, New Jersey, on Monday evening, on March 21. A Suryoyo Achiever in Rhode Island

On March 13, 2011, the Rhode Island State Elks Association held an Americanism Essay Recognition Dinner and Award Program for students who scored highly in their schools on “Americanism Essays” contest. One of our parishioners in St. Ephraim’s Church in Central Falls, Rhode Island won the first place in the 5th grade competition. His name is Alexander Khabbaz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bassam Khabbaz, and grandson of Shamosho Augin Monofar, our beloved deacon, who served many years on the altar of our Church there. Ankara 30th, March 2011: His Holiness Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, The Patriarch of Antioch and all the East held a meeting with Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.
