His Eminence Visits St. Philoxenus Parish in Roanoke, Virginia
Friday, March the 18th , His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim arrived in Roanoke, Virginia on a pastoral visit to the parish of St. Philoxenus of Mabug. At the airport, he was greeted by the priest of the parish, Very Rev. Fr. Fadi Abdul Ahad, the president and members of the Board of the Church.
In the Church, His Eminence met with the Board over Lenten dinner. In the meeting, he reviewed with them the plans for the new headquarters of the church, which include a Sanctuary, a social hall, an apartment for the priest and few classrooms. He then took a tour of the facilities and noted the progress made with the very limited resources of the parish.
On the morning of Saturday the 18th, His Eminence celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) inside the temporary church within the facilities. He was assisted by Very Rev. Father Fadi Abdulahad, the deacons and the choir of the church. During the Holy Liturgy, His Eminence gave a sermon on the “Healing of the Paralytic” by Lord Jesus in Capernaum, which is commemorated in our church on the third Sunday of Lent.
Following the Liturgy, which was attended by over fifty parishioners, His Eminence joined them for a Lental lunch, during which he answered their questions, offered them words of encouragement and praised their efforts, love of the Church and dedication.
