Feast of Assumption of the Mother of God
Sunday morning, the 14th of August His Eminence celebrated Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at St. Mary’s Church, Shrewsbury, MA. His Eminence was assisted in the celebration of the Holy Qurobo (Liturgy) by Rev. Fr. Mattias Shaltan of Rhode Island, and deacons from the three parishes in New England: St. Ephraim, St. Matthew and St. Mary’s. During the Holy Qurobo His Eminence delivered a sermon in which he retold the story of the Zunoro (belt) of the Virgin Mary that is kept in her church in Homes, Syria. He also highlighted some of the virtues of the Holy Virgin which made her worthy to be chosen to give birth to the Son of God, emphasizing humility as the single most important attribute which should be adopted by all.
After the special hymns Commemorating the Virgin Mary, sung by the choirs, a large procession took place leading on the Icon of the most Blessed Yoldath Aloho (Mother of God). The beautiful Syriac hymns, coupled with the congregation’s supplications and requests to the Mother of God, elevated the crowd to heavenly heights. It was a memorable day that will stay in the people’s hearts for a long time. A big picnic followed the Holy Liturgy and everybody had the chance to socialize and taste the delicious foods and Barbeques.
