Ordination of a Gospler (Ewangeloyo) Deacon
During the Holy Liturgy, celebrated by His Eminence, Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim, in St. Peter’s Church, Long Island, October the 1st, 2011, Subdeacon Jack Sawma was ordained to the rank of Ewangeloyo (Gospler Deacon). His Eminence, Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak assisted in the celebration together with clergy from the area. The Reverend Deacon Sawma has been serving the altar of the Lord since his youth, and has been serving St. Peter’s Church, Long Island since it was established. Following the ordination, Archbishop Mor Cyril congratulated St. Peter’s Parish on this historical day in the life of the parish. He likewise, congratulated the new deacon and his family. Shamosho Sawma delivered a short speech. He thanked the Lord God for His grace, and thanked their Eminences, the clergy, deacons and parishioners for this sacred and happy occasion. He also promised to continue serving the church faithfully with the other deacons.
After the conclusion of the service all attendees sat for dinner in the church social hall.
