Elevation of Rev. Father Gabriel Adde to the Khouroyo Level
On Sunday November 20, 2011, at 5 PM, St. Peter’s church in Hicksville, New York, enjoyed a great day of love and appreciation. His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurbono (Divine Liturgy) to elevate Fr. Gabriel Adde to the rank of Archpriest (Khouroyo). Also present was His Excellency Mor Barnaba Yusef Habash, from our sister Syriac Catholic church, as well as many of the local clergy and parishioners. St. George’s parish choir mesmerized the attendees with their beautiful chanting of the church hymns suitable for the occasion.
During his sermon, His Eminence expressed his appreciation for Fr. Adde’s long years of great service, first in Chicago, and now in Long Island and Brooklyn, and congratulated his family and congregations on this joyful event.
With the conclusion of the church ceremony, the clergy and parishioners were invited to a banquet at the Woodland’s, honoring Very Rev. Adde’s elevation. There, His Excellency and His Eminence congratulated the celebrant with a few words and blessed the food with the Lord’s Prayer. A short program was prepared by the parish organizations of both St. Peter and St. George to show respect, love and appreciation for their spiritual father.
While the guests enjoyed their dinner, they listened to beautiful church hymns and national Syriac songs from the joined choirs of the two parishes, conducted by Dr. Gabriel Alkass.
