40th Day Memorial for the Late Very Rev Fr. Samuel Akdemir
On Sunday, November 27 His Eminence Archbishop Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was assisted by Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun, the cathedral’s priest, and a large number of deacons.
Flowing the Holy Qurobo, His Eminence presided over a special 40th day memorial service of the late Very Rev. Khouroyo Samuel Akdemir. All clergy of local parishes joined the service. At the beginning of the service His Eminence praised the late Fr. Akdemir for his faithful service to the Holy Church which extended over six decades. He highlighted his role as a Patriarchal Vicar for the diocese of Istanbul for many years and his sincere efforts in bringing an archbishop to that diocese. Archbishop Karim went on to say: “Fr. Akdemir always put the interest of the church before his own. He was an example of a disciplined priest, obedient to his superiors which earned him the love and respect of both the hierarchy of the church and that of his parishioners.” Archbishop Karim also mentioned how Fr. Akdemir always preserved the dignity of priesthood in the way he respected others who in turn respected him.
In addition to Fr. Akdemir’s family, Very Rev. John Khoury, Very Rev. Shamoon Asmar, Rev. Fr. Aziz Hadodo and St. Mark’s congregation, several hundred parishioners from the local parishes were in attendance.
When the service was ended the whole congregation offered condolences to the family and participated in a mercy meal offered by the family for the good memory of Fr. Akdemir. May the Lord rest his soul in peace in His heavenly paradise and reward him according to his many good deeds.
