Ordination of Deacons in St. Matthew’s parish, Boston
His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim paid a pastoral visit to St. Mathew’s parish in Boston, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 23, 2012 and on Sunday morning, June 24th; the Archbishop celebrated the Holy Qurobo (Divine Liturgy) for the congregants. During the Holy Liturgy, His Eminence ordained several deacons for both St. Mathew’s and for St. Mary’s parish of Worcester, Mass. The joint ordination drew an impressive number of onlookers which added to the joy of the event. Very Rev. Fr. Saliba AlKassis, pastor of St. Mathew’s, along with the deacons and choir, assisted His Eminence with the colorful and moving service.
For St. Matthew’s Church, ordained to the rank of Aphodiaqno (Sub-Deacons) were Ibrahim Damerji and Joseph Chammas. Ordained to the rank of Qoruyo (Reader) were Joseph Hannawi, John Zavaro, Danny Dinno, Cris Dinno, Mario Sabha, Victor Sabha, John Aroush, Joseph Aroush and Paul Alraheb.
For St. Mary’s Church, Mathew Bakkal was ordained to the rank of Aphodiaqno (Sub-Deacon). Saad Saadi and Naim Marriki were ordained to the rank of Qoruyo (Reader).
In his sermon, Archbishop Karim stressed the importance of taking the service of the Lord seriously and spoke about the great blessings that God showers on His faithful servants by calling them to be participants in the most holy service when the bread and wine become the true body and blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ. At the conclusion of the church service, His Eminence accepted the congratulations of the parishioners and the families of the newly ordained individuals. Later, they were all invited for lunch prepared by the Board of Trustees and the ladies of the church. During the Lunch, the Archbishop signed his children’s book “In the Tree House”.
