Easter Greeting From His Eminence Mor Cyril Aphrem Karim

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; for He has been raised, as He said. Come see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and indeed is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him” (Matthew 28:5).

The word resurrected means brought back to life. Easter is the celebration of Christ’s resurrection from the dead and is a time to “bring back to life” our faith in Him. Easter invites us to give life back to our Christian faith. The pain Jesus endured before and during the crucifixion was so that He could deliver the promise; “This is indeed the will of My Father that all who see the Son and believe in Him shall have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day.” (John 6:40). This is the foundation of our faith. During these very challenging times we must do our best not to forget His promise.

Life’s difficulties, our questions about certain unfortunate things happening in the world, often to loved ones and innocent bystanders and the feeling of helplessness and pain clearly explains that Jesus’ suffering will be ours at some point. Easter, however, paves the way to understand that the ultimate reward for Christians is eternal life because His resurrection is truly ours. Christ’s resurrection is a victory over death. Likewise, our uncompromising faith in Him is a victory over evil that exists in this world.

During this holy season of Easter, let us keep in mind the oppressed and afflicted here and abroad. Let us pray for world peace and an end to war and its unwarranted consequences.

I pray that everyone has a spiritually rewarding Easter and that the Almighty shower you and your loved ones with His abundant blessings now and always.
