Holy Liturgy at the Mor Aphrem Center Elevation of the Holy Cross and King Abgar

On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak celebrated the Holy Liturgy, in the presence of V. Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun, commemorating the Elevation of the Holy Cross, Mid-Lent, and King Abgar of Edessa. In his sermon, His Eminence spoke about the Elevation of the Holy Cross, a significant event in Christianity, which is commemorated with reverence, reminding the faithful of the profound sacrifice made by Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity.

He also spoke about the the rich history surrounding King Abgar of Edessa, as the first Christian king. He spoke about King Abgar’s important role in early Christianity, highlighting his extreme faith and firm commitment to spreading the teachings of Christ, and how it symbolizes the power of faith to transform lives and shape history.
