On January 8, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met Mr. Henry Wooster, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Principal Near East Affairs, in Washington, D.C. His Eminence Archbishop Mor Dionysius John Kawak, Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern USA, and Mr. Richard Ghazal, CEO of In Defence of Christians (IDC)، accompanied His Holiness during these meetings.
During the meeting, His Holiness discussed the current situation in Syria and emphasized the importance of lifting the sanctions on the Syrian people. He also conveyed the Syrian people’s aspiration to enjoy peace, security, democracy, justice, and equal rights.
