On Friday, December 20, 2024, St. Mark’s Youth hosted a meditation night with His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak, who spoke about the true spirit of Christmas. His powerful message centered on living the real meaning of Christmas not through presents and decorations, but by reflecting the love of Christ in our hearts.
His Eminence shared some points, starting with the Manger as a symbol of humility, reminding us of how Christ entered the world in the most humble way. He spoke of the Star as a call to seek God, and how the Magi, with their gifts, teach us to worship God with our time, talents, and hearts, offering Him our very best. He also reflected on the angels as messengers of peace, sharing the announcement of Jesus’ birth with a message of peace to the world. The Shepherds, he noted, were the first witnesses of the joy of Christ’s birth, spreading the good news to all. The Christmas Tree, His Eminence explained, is a symbol of eternal life. Its evergreen colored branches remind us of life through Christ, while the lights on the tree symbolize Jesus as the light of the world. The star atop the tree points us directly to Christ.
Just as we decorate a tree with beautiful ornaments, we are called to fill our lives with good deeds and virtues. He encouraged the youth to live Christmas every day by serving others, helping those in need just as Jesus came to help us. He concluded by reminding everyone that Christmas is more than gifts and decorations. It’s about inviting Jesus into our hearts, our homes, and living out His love through humility, peace, and joy. May Christ be born in our hearts, and may we carry His light into the world!
