Holy Liturgy – Thursday of the Mysteries

14 Oct

On Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak celebrated the Holy Liturgy in the presence of V. Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun and Rev. Fr. Joseph Shammas. During the celebration of the Holy Liturgy for the Thursday of Mysteries, His Eminence delivered a sermon focused on the words of our Lord Jesus Christ: “Do this in remembrance of Me.” He spoke to the faithful about the deep meaning behind these sacred words, reminding everyone that this command is not just a tradition, but a living mystery we are called to participate in.

He reminded them that the Holy Eucharist is not simply a memory, it is our communion with the living Christ. He encouraged them by telling them that each time we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, we are standing at the foot of the Cross and the door of the Empty Tomb. He also said that this moment changes us, unites us with Christ and one another, and fills our hearts with His love and sacrifice. He encouraged all the faithful to receive the Eucharist and live it to forgive as we’ve been forgiven, to serve like Christ served at the Last Supper, and to love like He loved us, even to the point of death. He also said that every time we attend Liturgy, heaven touches earth, and Christ becomes our food, healing, and life. He concluded by saying, “Do this in remembrance of Me.” This is Christ’s personal invitation to each of us to remain in Him and for Him to stay in us.
