On Sunday, August 10, 2025, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak, by the kind invitation of His Eminence Mor Athanasius Elia Bahi and with the assistance of Rev. Jacques Hanna, celebrated the Holy Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary and Mor Yakoub in Montreal, Canada.
In his sermon, His Eminence first spoke to the faithful about the words of our Lord in Luke 14:7-15, reminding us that Jesus turns the world’s way of thinking upside down by saying, “Choose the last place.”
He then reminded them that the last place is not a place of shame, but the place where we can truly meet Christ, hear His voice, and find real freedom.
He went on by saying that at the Lord’s table, the poor, the broken, and the forgotten are the honored guests because before God, we are all poor, and our worth comes only from His love, not from titles or the praise of people.
His Eminence concluded by telling the faithful that one day, those who humble themselves will hear the Lord say: “Friend, move up higher.”
