On Sunday, October 31st, 2021, The Educational Programs Committee of the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States hosted a Holy Harvest Day event for the children of our Syriac Orthodox local churches in New Jersey at the Mor Aphrem Center.
His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak welcomed all the children and opened the event with the Lord’s Prayer. The children were asked to wear all white to commemorate “All Saints Day.” The reason being is to encourage our children that celebrating Halloween is against our Christian faith. We as Christians should celebrate life not death. Holiness is what we should aim for. We as Christians are taught and instructed to be the light of the world.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
