Holy Thursday – Washing of the Feet Ceremony | St. Gabriel’s Syriac Orthodox Church in Haworth, New Jersey

14 Oct

On Thursday, April 17, 2025, on the evening of Holy Thursday, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak celebrated the rite of the Washing of the Feet in the presence of Very Rev. Fr. Saliba Saliba, Very Rev. Fr. Aziz Hadodo, and Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Shabo, at Mor Gabriel Parish in Haworth, New Jersey. His Eminence washed the feet of twelve individuals, representing the twelve disciples.

During the service, His Eminence delivered the sermon titled “He Knelt Will You?” He reminded the faithful that when Jesus washed His disciples feet, He was showing us what true love and humility look like. He went on to encourage everyone, young and old, to follow that same example not just in Church, but every day, by serving one another with love, patience, and humility. He shared that Christ didn’t just tell us what to do He showed us, by taking the lowest role and lifting others up. He concluded his message by asking the faithful “If Jesus knelt to serve, are we willing to do the same?”
