Holy Liturgy | Church of the Virgin Mary

15 Jan

On Sunday, August 4, 2025, His Eminence Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal assistant celebrated the Holy Liturgy at Church of the Virgin Mary in Paramus, New Jersey, assisted by Abuna Gabriel Alkass.

In his sermon, His Eminence spoke to the faithful reminding them about the special meaning of mountains in the Bible how they’re places where people go to pray, feel close to God, and receive His word. He shared the beautiful story of the Transfiguration, where Jesus showed His heavenly glory on a mountain, in front of Peter, James, and John. He reminded us how Moses and Elijah appeared next to Jesus, showing us that Jesus is greater than the prophets.

His Eminence reminded everyone that this moment gave a little preview of the Resurrection, to give the disciples hope and strength before Jesus’ suffering. He concluded by saying just like them, we also need to carry that strength and light from the mountain into our daily struggles, and to stay strong in our faith, to keep praying, and to always remember the light we saw on the mountain.
