Holy Liturgy | St. Mark’s Cathedral

11 May

On Sunday, August 24, 2025, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Mark’s Cathedral, assisted by the Very Rev. Fr. Joseph Chamoun.

In his sermon, His Eminence reflected on the Parable of the Great Banquet (Luke 14:15–24), emphasizing that God’s Kingdom is offered to us as a feast of joy, not a burden. He explained that while those invited in the parable made excuses clinging to possessions, work, and even family ties the Master instead welcomed the poor, the broken, and the humble, showing us that the Kingdom belongs to those who recognize their need for God.

His Eminence reminded the faithful that the banquet is set before us at every Divine Liturgy, where Christ Himself invites us, saying: “Come, for all things are now ready.”

He concluded with a call:

“The question is not whether we are invited we are. The question is: will we say ‘yes’? Let us not delay. Let us not give excuses. Let us enter the joy of Christ’s banquet with open hearts.”
