The Educational Programs Committee of the Eastern Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church under the leadership of His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak hosted the Annual Sunday school teachers retreat at Mor Aphrem Center in New Jersey between 13-15 October 2017. The theme of this year’s retreat was “Reaching by Teaching.”
Nearly 40 teachers attended this year retreat from the Eastern and Western Archdioceses in the USA. The program included: a speech by His Eminence about the five love languages of children, three workshops about “How to Make Jesus Real to Kids,” “How to keep control in our classrooms,” “How to express and understand the 5 love languages of children,” and introducing Syriac Chant to Children by Gabriel Aydin. The weekend was filled with love, compassion, growth, understanding and friendship.
Saturday evening, the teachers gathered to study the word of God and discuss His teaching when He said: “My teaching is not Mine, but His Who sent Me” (John 7:16).
Sunday morning, and to conclude the retreat, the teachers attended the Holy Liturgy and departed to their parishes with new experience, knowledge and materials for our beloved Sunday school children.
