On Thursday, June 30th to Sunday, July 3rd, 2022, the Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern US hosted the Annual Suryoyo Family Retreat at the Mor Aphrem Center in Paramus, New Jersey. Under the theme: “Abidance in Christ”, taken from (1 John 2: 28), “And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming”.
On the opening day the participants were shown a movie “Let There Be Light”.
The following day on Friday 1, 2022, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak delivered the first lecture on the topic “Faithfulness in the Christian life” (Psalm 101:6). In the evening of the same day a spiritual lecture was given by Rev. Fr. Daoud Lamei on the topic “Challenges of faith” (1 John 2: 28) in Arabic and English. The night was concluded by evening prayers.
On Saturday, July 2, 2022, the gathering began with morning prayers. Rev. Fr. Anton Sabha delivered a lecture on the topic ” Don’t be afraid ” (2 Chronicles 20: 17).
The second lecture of the day was by V. Rev. Fr. Augeen Alkhouri Nimat on “Partakers of the Heavenly Calling” (Hebrews 3: 1).
Besides the lectures a special program for the youth and kids were prepared as well.
On Sunday, July 3, 2022, the Annual Suryoyo Family Retreat was concluded by the Holy Liturgy celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Augeen Alkhouri Nimat.
