On Sunday, January 5, 2025, His Eminence Mor Dionysius John Kawak, assisted by Rev. Fr. Alan Shaltan, celebrated the Divine Liturgy for St. Athanasius Parish in Tarpon Springs, Tampa, on the occasion of the Feast of Epiphany (Denho). In his sermon Archbishop Kawak spoke about the Feast of Epiphany, which mark the Baptism of Christ, and serves as a profound manifestation of the Holy Trinity and a call for Christians to renew their spiritual lives. He reminded the faithful that the moment of His baptism not only revealed the mystery of the Trinity but also sanctified the waters, setting the foundation for our own baptism and renewal.
His Eminence emphasized and reflected on this sacred event, by saying we should be reminded of Christ’s humility, as He, though sinless, chose to be baptized by John and that His example teaches us to embrace humility and to serve others selflessly. He also encouraged the faithful on how one should live the feast in our daily lives and shared some points that believers are encouraged to renew their baptismal promises, practice humility, be a light to the world, and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit through prayer, worship, and the sacraments. In conclusion, His Eminence reminded them again by saying embodying these principles, Christians can continually walk in holiness and proclaim the love and truth of Christ in their lives. The Feast serves as a reminder to resist sin, embrace grace, and shine as faithful witnesses of God’s glory.
